I never thought I'd be so happy to be feeling DOMS in my legs again. Just feeling mega happy and grateful to be aching and sore after a session knowing that i've gone 100%, its that physical feeling of progress being made, a bittersweet pain. The past two weeks of training have been the first solid training weeks in a while, I'm getting back into routines and can already feel improvements. Also, the addition of two new members to my bicycle family has kept excitement levels high. My dad and I have been figuring out the realm of electronic shifting in the process of building up a pair of Ridley’s frames (spec review and low-down coming soon!!) ,completed just in time for my first race at the first round of the National Trophy Series in Derby. I only decided to race Derby two days before, not knowing if I was ready enough (mentally more than physically) to take on the challenge. I went to the race with the aim to purely test my health and see where I was at... to know a starting point. With the excitement of being at a race again and getting the whole Montezuma's team together ,my mindset changed completely and I ended up being wayyy more excited to race than nervous! It was the first effort I'd done in months and was a real reminder to how intense CX racing is but also why I love it. I finished 16th overall and in two minds: one being that I am mega gassed that I made it to the start line let alone the finish line (proud of me!!) but the other a little gutted as it proved how much fitness I'd lost and how much further I had to go. Was fab to be able to support all my Montezuma's teammates over the weekend too and share their successes, being in such a positive environment really helped with my mindset over the weekend, I am grateful to be surrounded by these people :)) Another solid week of training later and I rocked up to a Miche Wessex CX league expecting to just get a really tough training race in. I ended up taking the lead from the start right until the finish! I cannot explain how good it felt to get my hands in the air again after 2 years, safe to say it was a well needed confidence boost, until now I really believed I'd lost the ability to win races. I've still got a lot of work and hours to put in to be where I want to be but it was a lovely little reminder of how it feels to win :)
Once again huge thanks to @PedalPotential for their support in my racing. Thanks for reading Amy :) x
