And just like that it's over. My 2020 CX season was short and sweet but the one where I gained the most experience. I feel INCREDIBLY lucky to have been able to race at all this year let alone have the opportunity to race for my country, and am so grateful to those who helped make every trip happen. It has been quite the learning curve and i’m reluctant to wave goodbye to CX until next season, as quite honestly I still feel like I have more left to give. As the opportunities to race have slowly fizzled out as England very slowly decides to lock up our borders, I'm left feeling a bit gutted that I couldn't end my season on a high, or go out with a bang! I guess in a sense this is good, it leaves me hungry for more, it's keeping that small flame of motivation burning.
I didn't know it at the time, as I was still planning on racing Dendemonde and Hulst World cups, but my last race of the year would be Namur World Cup, an epic course but a disappointing result. I was super excited yet the most nervous for this event; known for being the KING of cx courses it certainly lived up to its name, it was brutal. I really got into a good rhythm on this course, I liked the flow of it and actually felt strong on some of the climbs (never in a million years did i think i would be saying i felt strong?! On a climb?!) However I hit this rhythm 1 lap too late. I got pulled by the 80% at the start of my 4th lap, I really wasn't expecting to be pulled that early to be honest, I felt like I had so much more left to give and was beyond gutted. But sh*t happens, and yet we still move forwards. For my first ever world cup I had no expectations other than to learn and come away knowing more than I started. I certainly learnt that the 80% rule is unforgiving!!! As we head into 2021, I am still training hard and about to begin a week full of testing (many many brutal and sweaty turbo sessions incoming!!) before base training commences. I am currently in the process of planning my summer season of racing (if covid allows) and cannot wait for the opportunities that lie ahead. Speaking of opportunities, I am pleased to announce that this year I will be supported by Pedal Potential, I am especially grateful for their support along my journey :))) Lastly, huge thanks to Montezuma’s Race Team an all our sponsors: Montezuma's Chocolates, Lazer Helmets, Ridley Bikes, Hargroves Cycles and Ellmore Clothing. I couldn't have raced this season without their support and I would say a very successful first season for the team. I feel very proud to be a part of it and am excited to be heading into 2021 in blue colours #poweredbychocolate Thanks for reading Amy :)) xx
